Mission

2020

Welcome to St. John Mission 2020!

Every month there will be a different event which will (in different ways) connect our neighbors to true riches in Jesus. Take a look at the list below to find how you can be on mission every month.

Two People Baptized at Deaf Ministry Workshop

Our first event was the Deaf Family Grow Workshop on Friday and Saturday, January 17 & 18 at St. John. During that workshop, God had more planned for those in attendance than we ever imagined. Two people were baptized! It all came about in a spontaneous manner, engineered by the Holy Spirit. Talk about connecting our neighbors to true riches in Jesus!

Mission Opportunities:

  • Summer 2020 - Community Garden ground breaking

Food. A basic need for all our neighbors, some of which can not afford to buy healthy fresh vegetables. Food pantries in our area can’t get enough fresh vegetables to meet the needs of their clients. We believe that with our resources of people and property we can fill a real need by developing a Community Garden.

We are already kicking off our new Community Garden project with a leadership group focusing on organizing and defining the scope of the garden. We're discovering there is much to be learned, much to be planned and much to be done with the desire to have our garden in place for the first planting in the 2020 fall growing season. Stay tuned for more information later this spring and through the summer. Let us know if you’re interested in getting involved by contacting Ken McCully at kmccully@stjohn.tv!

  • February - Saturday of blessings

On the 39th day of the Red Letter Challenge, everyone is tasked with blessing someone. We will join as a St. John community to be blessings to our neighbors in four different ways. Please choose one!

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) – CAM is excited to have volunteers help with a few opportunities at their facilities.

First, sorting and stocking food donations at their Food Pantry, they’ll need help with the Super Bowl Food Drive donations.

Second, their Donation Center needs help sorting and preparing donations for sale in their resale shop, Angels Attic.

Third, they need help with light maintenance possibly including projects like striping the parking areas, washing windows and clearing weeds (weather permitting).

We’ll work from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the CAM buildings located near the intersection of Fleur de Lis and Huffmeister. Please note, all volunteers must be at least 13 years old to work at the CAM site. This site will be led by Ken McCully.

Prayer & Bible Booths around Cypress Join teams who will be handing out bottled water, free Bibles and an offer to pray for anyone who stops by. This will be led by Seth & Emily Gehrke.

Encouragement Cards Write, decorate and address encouraging cards to visitors who have come to St. John recently, possibly new neighbors, businesses nearby and others. This will be led by Roxann Combs.
